The Huntsville Public Library is pleased to announce an opportunity for genealogy enthusiasts and newcomers alike to meet with experienced and qualified genealogical researchers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. One-hour sessions will be offered weekly on Thursdays. Sessions will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Attendance will be limited to no more than four researchers. The small group will allow each participant to receive individual attention. Sign-up is not required. This program is for adults 17 and older.

Teens, did you miss a movie in the theater? Are you hungry for pizza? Come to the Teen Film Club at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14th to enjoy a PG-13 movie in the library’s Staggs Community Room. Pizza will be provided but teens are encouraged to bring their own drink in a spill-proof container. Participants must be between the ages of 13 and 18.

If your family tree is missing some branches, then sign up for “Exploring Ancestry.com”, a workshop devoted to teaching the basics of this online family history resource. The workshop will be held from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2019. Future classes will be held on the first Friday of each month from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Develop the skill sets needed for online genealogical research. Learn how to navigate the different learning centers and databases. Discover family tree members using Ancestry.com tools such as vital, census, military, and immigration records. The site is free to library patrons when used on the library’s computers. Limit 4 per session.

The Huntsville Public Library, in conjunction with the Sam Houston State University (SHSU) Law, Engagement, and Politics (LEAP) Center and the Boys and Girls Club of Walker County will present a free Citizenship Preparation Course. The class will be held from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays beginning March 21st through April 25th in the Huntsville Public Library’s Staggs Community Room. The course is designed to prepare immigrants for the U. S. Naturalization Test and will cover the application process, oral interview, and exam. All necessary materials will be provided. The classes are taught by Mike Yawn, Political Science Professor at SHSU. Space is limited and registration is required, so sign up at the library early.
