    Prom season is almost here! If you are looking for inspiration or for help with how to style your hair yourself, come to the Huntsville Public Library for a free “Updo 101” class taught by Tonya Collum. This two-part class will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 14 and Friday, March 15 in the Staggs Community Room. Tonya Collum is the owner of a local hair salon and also teaches cosmetology courses at Huntsville ISD. This program is designed for ages 12 to 18. Participants must bring their own hair care products and tools so they can learn with items they already own. All hair types welcome! Registration is required as space is limited.   2. Genealogy Winter Lock-In

    The Huntsville Public Library & Walker County Genealogical Society will host the annual Genealogy Winter Lock-In from 12:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 17 at the Huntsville Public Library. Beginners and longtime researchers are all invited. Society Members will be available to assist in all areas of research. Bring all your paperwork! A light lunch will be provided by the Society.

  3. Chronic Pain Self-Management Workshop

    February 18, 2019, 1:00 PM - 3:30 PM @ Library

    Do you suffer from chronic pain? Learn how to ease your symptoms through stress management, exercise and nutrition. The 2 ½ hour classes will also feature how to get a good night’s sleep and how to deal with depression. Huntsville Public Library will host a series of six classes starting at 1 p.m. on Mondays from January 14 to February 25. The classes are sponsored by Texas A&M Center for Population, Health, and Aging and the Houston-Galveston Area Agency on Aging. The workshops are free and limited to 16 participants.   4. Pilates for Everyone

    Pilates is a great way to strengthen your abs, reduce back pain and hone your focus. Pilates student teachers from the SHSU Department of Dance will teach a weekly class from 6:00 PM to 6:45 PM starting Monday, February 11 in the Community Room at the Huntsville Public Library. The Huntsville Public Library is partnering with the SHSU Center for Community Engagement for this program. Pilates classes build strength, flexibility and lean muscle tone with an emphasis on lengthening the body and aligning the spine. Benefits include production of muscle tone that doesn’t create bulk, overall slimming, greatly improved flexibility and increased mobility, even in just a short time. Please bring your own towel or mat. Consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program. Liability waivers are required to participate and are available from the instructor.
